Blog Your Blessing : Unity

Lakota Instructions for Living

Friend do it this way - that is,

whatever you do in life,

do the very best you can

with both your heart and mind.

And if you do it that way,

the Power Of The Universe

will come to your assistance,

if your heart and mind are in Unity.

When one sits in the Hoop Of The People,

one must be responsible because

All of Creation is related.

And the hurt of one is the hurt of all.

And the honor of one is the honor of all.

And whatever we do effects everything in the universe.

If you do it that way - that is,

if you truly join your heart and mind

as One - whatever you ask for,

that's the Way It's Going To Be.

Exhibiting Without Effort

Camelback Displays
Made in the USA, Sold in Texas

Trade show exhibits have come a long way from the draped folding table with a banner above that I remember from when I used to attend conferences for my job.

Today the latest in trade show displays include pop-up trade show displays, printed pop-ups, premium pop-ups, custom pop-ups, tabletop trade show displays, panel trade show exhibits, custom panel systems, designer trade show exhibits, towers and truss trade show exhibits.

Maybe you just need a table for a small meet and greet? Tranzibit is a completely portable table with telescoping legs that includes storage space and doubles as a transport dolly on four wheels! Add one of their personalized cloth or disposable plastic table covers and you will be ready for anything.

If you want a simple table top display, there are many from which to choose. Panel-top table displays, pop-up table displays and tabletop displays. Many of these table top displays break down into component parts that, once packed in the case, may be checked on an airline.

Lightweight, easy to assemble, professional graphics and superb customer service will make your next trade show a breeze.

What Would You Do For Money?

Money is tight and the bills are due. Dad's was laid off and they just repossessed the mobile home in which you live. Mom is walking the streets for milk money and Granny is digging recyclables out of dumpsters behind buildings.

Is there anything you would not do for money?

New Online Community Asks People What They Would Do For Money

GreedyPeople.com launches an on-demand service site that allows users to buy and sell traditional and non-traditional services while responding to member-issued challenges of, "What would you do for money?"

If you could imagine Elance, Facebook, Craigslist, The Moment of Truth and Comedy Central combined into a consumer-based web environment, you'd have a pretty close idea of what GreedyPeople is all about

North Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) August 19, 2008 -- Would you wash a stranger's car in your bikini for $100? How about mow your friend's lawn in your wife's wedding dress for $250? What more would you do for an extra $500? GreedyPeople.com wants to know what people would do for money and the answers are an eye-opener.

Gas prices rise steadily and employment rates decline. Everyone seeks to ease the brunt of living costs while finding a way to make extra money. GreedyPeople.com offers a humorous and light-hearted way for average Joes and Janes to make extra cash or outsource unusual needs. From dropping off dry cleaning to peeling grapes in a panda suit, GreedyPeople.com provides users with the ability to negotiate ultimate desires and member-issued challenges.

The site is the brainchild of Chick Ciccarelli, CEO of MediaBuys LLC (managing agency for GreedyPeople.com). "In any economy, there are people who have money and people who need money. This is especially true in a recession. GreedyPeople.com simply brings those people together and allows them to have a little fun while also overcoming difficult circumstances," says Ciccarelli.

Traditional service websites often act as provider auction portals for small business outsourcing. GreedyPeople.com is designed to serve the average person with specific requests using one-on-one negotiations with others. "There are many places where you can find a typist, but what if you need something out of the ordinary? What if you need a singing telegram delivered, or you want 50 people to start picketing in a lawful demonstration by Wednesday? GreedyPeople.com is where people go to negotiate deals for normal and not-so-normal services."

Blend one cheeky service site with a powerful social networking engine, and you have a recipe for laughter. "If you could imagine Elance, Facebook, Craigslist, The Moment of Truth and Comedy Central combined into a consumer-based web environment, you'd have a pretty close idea of what GreedyPeople is all about," states Kyle Lindley, president of net-ARB.com, whose company will provide arbitration services for any greedy transaction disputes.

Ciccarelli notes that the site isn't just about the money. Creativity is encouraged, and there are monthly prizes for the Most Outrageous Offer. Visitors submit votes and the site keeps track of those who make the most money as well as send and receive the most offers. A list of the Greediest People on Earth is on public display, too.

While doing strange things to make extra money is hardly a new phenomenon, GreedyPeople.com's online service site is the first in which people can hawk their proverbial wares. Whether you're visiting to see what's on offer, what people will do for money or just interested in finding out exactly how materialistic our society has become, GreedyPeople.com is the kind of website you can't keep your eyes off.

While you're there, don't forget to "Make Me An Offer."

They are jailing Americans in China for speaking their mind and participating in peaceful demonstrations about human rights abuses in China. Some will blame the individuals who were detained for their own imprisonment. While they certainly knew the chances of spending time in jail were high, their commitment to a free Tibet, and freedom of speech overrode their sense of self-preservation.

Such is the remorseless progression of human society, shedding lives and souls as it goes on its way. It is an ocean into which men sink who have been cast out by the law and consigned, with help most cruelly withheld, to moral death. The sea is the pitiless social darkness into which the penal system casts those it has condemned, an unfathomable waste of misery. The human soul, lost in those depths, may become a corpse. Who shall revive it? -- Victor Hugo
Help Revive the Soul and Free the Land of Tibet

From freetibet2008.org;
Remember why they went, and keep in mind - Americans get 10 days jail, Chinese grannies get one year forced labor, and Tibetans get shot.

Breaking news:

BEIJING (AP) (45 minutes ago) — The U.S. Ambassador to China is pressing Chinese officials to immediately release eight Americans who were detained for holding pro-Tibet protests during the Olympics.

Ambassador Clark T. Randt Jr. says in a statement Sunday that Beijing should demonstrate respect for human rights and free speech.

He says U.S. officials are "disappointed that China has not used the occasion of the Olympics to demonstrate greater tolerance and openness."

Randt says consular officials had met with eight Americans who were detained last week by Chinese authorities.

Chinese authorities say the Americans will be released after 10 days detention. The U.S. statement says the detainees have not claimed any maltreatment at the hands of Chinese officials.

Keep these citizen journalists, bloggers and activists in your thoughts. Remember what is happening to these Americans is nothing compared to what happens to ordinary citizens every day under Chinese rule.

Net Neutrality: Why You Should Give a Damn

If you believe in a true open market and don't want to give your freedom of choice to some corporate Big Brother, if you don't want your Internet experience censored, if you enjoy watching YouTube or visiting Facebook without limitations -- you probably support Net Neutrality without even realizing it.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

I have taken all the 7 Habits Training and feel it made me a better person, employee, supervisor, parent, spouse and citizen. With this training, I was able to work full time at a large university department during a time of tremendous growth in personnel and programming, attend college half-time and be a single parent to an active adolescent involved in sports and school. I do not think I would have made it otherwise.

I pulled out my 7 Habits information again because I have found that I am not spending my time as wisely as I could. It is time to take stock of where I am and where I want to be.

7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

1. Be Proactive (Do Not React; Take Action in Advance of Need; Stop a Problem in its Tracks; Move Activities from Sector I to Sector II by Planning)

Fosters courage to take risks and accept new challenges to achieve goals

2. Begin with the End in Mind (What Are We Doing? How Will We Know It is Done?)
Brings projects to completion and unites teams under a shared vision, mission, and purpose

3, Put First Things First (Time Management is the Key Here)
Promotes getting the most important things done first and encourages direct effectiveness

We spend most of our time on Sector I activities (crises).
As we become more proactive in prioritizing our lives,
delegating tasks and recognizing what is important
and what is not important, we move our activities into Sector II.

4. Think WinWin (No One Has to Lose. Cooperation, Not Competition)
Encourages conflict resolution with individuals who seek mutual benefit

5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood (Truly Listen; Know What the Other Person is Saying)
Helps people understand problems, resulting in targeted solutions; and promotes better communications, leading to successful problem solving

6. Synergize (Two Heads are Better Than One; Six Heads May be Best)
Ensures greater "buy in" from team members and leverages the diversity of individuals to increase levels of success

7. Sharpen the Saw (Continuous Improvement of Self, Processes and Resources)
Promotes continuous improvements and safeguards against "burnout" and subsequent nonproductivity

If you wish to know more, you may read summaries and notes at QuickMBA, White Dove Books, and Profit Advisors. Or, purchase the book and workbook at Amazon.com. Invest in your effectiveness, reduce your stress levels and be who you want to be.

Blog Your Blessing : Wild Things

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what may life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Memory Walk 2008

I have a good friend that just turned 60. She has always been forgetful; however, last year she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. What started as normal misplacing of car keys and purse soon segued into difficulties with language and abstract concepts. Probably the worse thing is that my friendly, funny and outgoing friend has become a depressed, passive and angry stranger.

The Alzheimer's Memory Walk is the largest event in the USA to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease and to raise funds for the care and support of people with Alzheimer's. Probably most important is the fund raising efforts to further research.

An adult brain contains about 100 billion nerve cells, or neurons, with branches that connect at more than 100 trillion points. Signals traveling through this network of neurons form the basis of memories, thoughts and feelings. Neurons are the chief type of cell destroyed by Alzheimer's disease (www.alz.org/brain/05.asp).

Visit the website and search by zip code for a team near you. If you cannot find a team, think about being a team captain. It is not hard to be a captain. You invite three people to join your team and they, in turn, invite three other people. Soon you have a team! Each member of your team has a fundraising goal, usually $200.

I searched for my zip code and found out that Hays County is having their first ever Memory Walk (5K) on October 25, 2008. I can form a team, join a team, sponsor a walker or just volunteer to help raise awareness. Will you join Memory Walk 2008? The funds raised by your walk could be instrumental in finding a cure for Alzheimer's and the brain you help save might be your own.

Paid to Blog Site Reviews?

There are several new Paid to Blog sites that have come to my notice in the past few months. I am thinking of doing a review of all the PTB sites again, like I did on CoolAdzine for Marketers last year. Is there any interest in this type of article?

Let me know what you think in the comments below. Thank you!

Fox Making Money on My Space?

Fox Interactive Media (FIM) is made up of a number of websites, including MySpace, AmericanIdol.com, PhotoBucket and FOXSports.com. Fox Interactive Media generated revenues of $856 million in fiscal 2008, missing the 1 billion target goal set by parent company, News Corp. News Corp. does not publicly disclose how much of FIM's revenues come from MySpace, but insiders estimate about 80 percent. Caclulations find MySpace earning $685 million in revenues for the fiscal year.

Monetizing MySpace Traffic - eMarketer

From eMarketer analysis:
. . . an eMarketer analysis of FIM US revenues versus unique visitors shows that FIM is getting better at monetizing its traffic. eMarketer estimates that the US accounts for 80% of total FIM revenues. That puts US revenues at FIM at $180 million in the June quarter, up 23% from $146 million in the same quarter in 2007. By contrast, the average number of monthly unique visitors in the US grew just 6.6% in the same time period, according to eMarketer's analysis of comScore Media Metrix data.
In Q2 2007, FIM earned roughly $0.59 in average monthly revenue per US unique visitor. In Q2 2008, average monthly revenue per US unique visitor was $0.68, or an increase of 15 percent. Monetization has fallen off since late 2007, when average monthly revenue per unique visitor reached $0.75.

Monetization is accomplished with behavioral targeting, called HyperTargeting initiative. Display ads are targeted based on information users divulge in their profiles. One-half of all ad buys now include HyperTargeting. For the last two quarters CPMs for HyperTargeting campaigns have been more than double those for nontargeted advertising,.

Blog Your Blessing : Perseid Meteor Shower

Photograph Credit: Joe Westerberg

During the dark hours from 2 am to dawn on Tuesday, August 12th, the Perseid Meteor Shower will provide a celestial light show in the Eastern sky.

Beginning the evening of Monday, August 11, before the moon rises, Perseus will rise in the northeast and you may see long, colorful Earthgrazers skip across the sky, harbingers of another celestial event. Next, watch the Southern sky, where Jupiter and the Moon converge in the constellation Sagittarius.

The moon will interfere with Perseid viewing until 2 am on Tuesday morning, when the Moon sets, leaving a dark sky to be painted with Perseids. Soon, the meteor shower will explode into sight, with hundreds of meteors per hour seen in areas away from city lights.

Beware Before Clicking

Twitter users who tried to download pornography were instead given a fake version of Adobe Flash loaded with a trojan, a program capable of stealing data.

According to the security firm, Kaspersky, this is the first attack to target Twitter. However:
two worms that target social networking sites MySpace and Facebook. More variants of these worms are also starting to turn up.

Always be suspicious of any site that wants you to download any file that ends in .exe, which means it is an executable file. Once you have downloaded the file and click on the .exe, you have given up control of your computer if the .exe file is a trojan. This is true of any email attachments as well as files you will find on the Internet.

Be safe out there.

Special Baby Shower Invitations

The daughter of one of my best friends is having a baby. This is a very happy occasion because she and her husband have been trying to get pregnant for a long time. My friend, grandma, was completely frantic because she lives in a small apartment and she did not know what to do or where to do it. I volunteered my home for the baby shower, my time to organize the party, and offered to purchase the Baby shower invitations.

Above is the invitation I selected. It is perfect because the nursery is going to be decorated in a Noah's Ark motif. I can purchase 30 for $19.99 and that includes the matching envelopes. I can also get a bonus of 10 free invitations by using the coupon code Free Invite - 10 Free Invites. I plan to have one of the invitations framed for the nursery as a gift.

I better get started, the shower is three weeks away! First, I have to sit the mother-to-be down and get her approval of the Shower Invitations and the Thank You Cards (see below), which I could not resist. Then I will need the name and addresses for the invitations. Next, I will plan some snacks, beverages, games and decorations.

Blog Your Blessing : Rain

May the blessing of the rain be on you—
the soft sweet rain.
May it fall upon your spirit
so that all the little flowers may spring up,
and shed their sweetness on the air.

May the blessing of the great rains be on you,
may they beat upon your spirit
and wash it fair and clean,
and leave there many a shining pool
where the blue of heaven shines,
and sometimes a star.

High Definition Radio is Here

I remember when FM radio was introduced. Suddenly, there was a completely new sound on the radio. Now, it is time for the next generation in radio--High Definition (HD) Radio.

To listen to HD Radio, all you need is an HD Radio Receiver. New cars may have the HD Radio Receiver as an option, or you may buy one for your car, starting at $100. HD Radio Receivers for your home will cost more.

iPod tagging is a feature available on specific HD Radio Receivers. As you listen to HD radio, if you hear a song you want to hear again, just hit TAG on the radio. The information about the song and the actual audio file will be transferred to your iPod the next time you synchronize.

There are many AM and FM Texas High Definition Radio stations, mostly in the bigger cities. HD radio is broadcast by antenna, so you must be within the listening area of an HD Radio station to receive the signal.

Victory! Internet to Remain Open!

Free Press: Comcast Decision 'Major Victory' for Open Internet

WASHINGTON -- Today, the Federal Communications Commission voted to punish Comcast, the nation's largest cable company, for blocking users' access to the open Internet. In a landmark decision, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and Commissioners Michael Copps and Jonathan Adelstein approved an "enforcement order" that would require Comcast to stop blocking and publicly disclose its methods for interfering with Internet traffic.

Tests by the Associated Press and others showed that Comcast blocks users' legal peer-to-peer content by sending fake signals that cut off the connection between file-sharers. Today's decision follows an exhaustive FCC investigation, launched in response to a complaint from Free Press and Public Knowledge urging the federal agency to stop Comcast's blocking.

Josh Silver, executive director of Free Press, issued the following statement:

"The FCC's bipartisan decision to punish Comcast is a major victory. Defying every ounce of conventional wisdom in Washington, everyday people have taken on a major corporation and won an historic precedent for an open Internet.

"Comcast's history of deception and continued blocking show contempt for the online consumer protections established by the FCC. We commend Chairman Martin and Commissioners Copps and Adelstein for standing up for Internet users and working across party lines to protect free speech and the free market.

"Today's order makes it clear that there is nothing reasonable about restricting access to online content or technologies. Moving forward, this bellwether case will send a strong signal to cable and phone companies that such violations will not be tolerated.

"But the fight is far from over. A duopoly market -- where phone and cable companies control nearly 99 percent of high-speed connections -- will not discipline itself. We look forward to working with the FCC and Congress to ensure proactive measures keep the Internet open and free of discrimination, and accessible to all Americans."

Read the Comcast Complaint: http://www.freepress.net/docs/fp_pk_comcast_complaint.pdf [1]

At 1 p.m. today, Free Press joined Public Knowledge, peer-to-peer company Vuze and the Open Internet Coalition to discuss the impact of the FCC's decision on consumer choice, online innovation and free market competition.
